REGISTER
Who can vote in NYS?

To Register to Vote in NY State You Must:

 

• Be a U.S. citizen;
• Be 18 by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote
• Live at your present address at least 30 days before an election;
• Not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction and;
• Not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

 
How can I register?
You can Register to Vote:
 

In person at your local Board of Elections or DMV office

By Mail: obtain a form by calling 1-800-FOR-VOTE, or online at www.elections.state.ny.us Complete the form and mail it to your county Board of Elections:

Vote by Absentee Ballot
You May Vote by Absentee Ballot in NYS if you will be:
 
  • Unavoidably absent from your county on Election Day
  • Unable to appear at the polls due to illness or disability
  • A patient in a VA Medical Center
To obtain a NY State Absentee Ballot Application Form:
 
  • Contact your county board of elections for instructions
  • Download a PDF version from www.elections.state.ny.us and mail to your county board no later than the seventh day before the election or deliver in person no later than the day before the election.
